12/11/2008: "Santa's Bad Theology (REPOST)"
music: A repost from 2005 for fun.
12/26/2005: "Santa's bad theology"
music: None
mood: Simul Justus et Pecator

Ok... I wanted to make a little note about Santa (not St. Nicholas) and his theology. First of all, his theme song "Santa Clause is Coming To Town" is all LAW... for example:
1. You better watch out (LAW)
2. You better not cry (LAW)
3. You better not pout (LAW)
4. I'm tellin' you why (exposition)
5. Santa Clause is coming to town (more exposition)
6. He sees you when you're sleeping, he knows when your awake, (descriptive)
7. He knows if you've been bad or good, BE GOOD FOR GOODNESS SAKE. (LAW plus works righteousness)
8. He's making a list and checking it twice, gonna find out if you're naughty or nice (Threat)
9. Santa Clause is coming to town (more exposition)
And it goes on from here.
This whole concept for Lutherans should be no less than APALLING!
Now, if you have your Catechisms out, you might want to check your first commandment (since you like LAW so much.) Teaching your kids about an omnicient being (sees all, knows all) who doesn't bear the name above all names is idolatry and pagan.
Second, what the heck is up with this whole "naughty O R nice" business. Does he believe that a human being can be anything OTHER than naughty. At best, the Christian, by the merits of Jesus Christ is simul naughty et nice.
Well, that's all I have to say about that. It just bugs me that Lutherans are so ready to get behind such a stupid myth (both socially AND theologically).
